Thanksgiving 2016 OPINON

Over two hundred  plus years ago, and fourty five presidents later, the first imagrants came to America. Mainly  Eurapians.

As luck would have it they couldn't survive without help from the Native Americans. The Native Americans taught them how to grow their own food and hunt.

Fast forward to the 1800s when the decendants of the Eurapians who came over to America, started fighting the Native Americans and forcing them to live where no one else would dare to.

Sure they got their own land but the pain they had to go through. Now in 2016 the Native Americans continue to fight for their rights and land. They ae fighting to keep white corparate America from using their land.

The Native Americans fighting against the Dakota Pipeline are having to litery fight to survive as Police forces attemt to force them off their own land.

I find it ironic how we as Americans are celebrating Thanksgiving and have forgotten that if it wasn't for the Native Americans we wouldn't be here.

Why?

Why? That is the question everyone is asking after the US election shock of a lifetime. By now everyone knows Donald Trump won the presidency.

What we dont know is why did he win when it was projected to go to Hillary Clinton? Also why are people reacting to it with protests and violance?

Lets start out by examining how Donald Trump was able to win dispite polls saying otherwise. Polls had Hillary winning by a decent margin.

Trump has been in the media a long time. So has Hillary. So what makes Trump differant? Trump's media expierience (unlike Hillarys) is in "reality TV". As such, he plaid the press for all it's worth.

Trump was constantly saying controvercial things, such as the "wall". Every time he said something controvercial it got him in the news. The more he was in the news the more unpaid exposure he had.

Trump was also diferant in the sense that he was not connected to anything in Washington DC other then his newly built Hotel. He doesn't have a political past so to speak.

Hate and discontent with our current people in power, drove people to vote against Clinton who was esentualy a Washington insider.

He also plaid to the people who felt that they were being left out. IE: white males from the south. His spinning hate for mexicans coming across our boarder illegally was one big reason people voted for him. Same goes for muslim terrorists.

Now to why people are so emotional about it. As a journalist we have to rely on sticking to the facts of a story and not to get emotionaly involved. Yet, somehow when the story broke, even I was and still am emotional about it.

I think the main reason people have become so emotional over this election vs previous elections, is the fact that the results just were not expected. Polls had Hillary winning by a fairly large margain. In addition, all the controvercial things he said and did just didn't make sense to elect someone like that.

What is done is done. Donald Trump is our President Elect. That fact will not change. One thing I perticurly noticed is his change in attitude and demeaner after the election. He seemed to act more presidential and more open.

Time will tell what will happen during his time in office. But, we have to continue our daily lives and continue to fight for whats right.

Election that shocked the world

11/8/2016 is a date that will forever live in infamy for the US and the world. It is the day that America elected the 45th president.

TV commentators spent most the night going from state to state with their projections. All this after six months of the most dramatic campain in history.

It all started out six months ago with sixteen Republican candidates and two Democrats. It soon became clear who either parties nomanee would be.

With the Republican convention in June, came a fight between party members. Ultamently the Republicans nominated Danald Trump as their presidential candidate.

It wasn't just the candidate himself that took spotlight at the RNC convention, but his wife who was critisised for plagerising Machelle Obamas speach.

On the Democrat side, their convention was a battle between Bernie Sanders supporters and the DNC. There was even protests.

The big news to come out of the Democratic convention was when The father of a muslil US Army veteran spoke. He spoke of how his son died for America.  Ultamently Hillary Clinton was nominated as the Democrat nomanee.

Over the past five months, you couldn't turn on the TV or go online without seeing something about Trump or Clinton. In the world of 24 hour news, you had commentators who were constantly guessing as to what would happen.

None of the commentators could predict what happened. It was a very late night, but in the end it was projected that Donald Trump leads Hillary Clinton 288 electorial collage votes to 240. Only 270 is needed to win.

In the aftermath of the results, global stock markets have shot to lower then average numbers. There is even riots reported in several states including California.

People will be trying to figure out what happend for weeks and even years to come. It is not the news medias job to speculate, only to report on facts of events. But yet still it is a big shock to everyone including the news media.

New VA facility opens

The dawning of a new age is apon us in regards to the Veterans Administration. Loma Linda VA medical center's ambulatory care clinic is open.

As of 10/12/2016 the new out patient clinic on Redlands Blv. and Mt View is taking patients. Patients will be able to get a wide range of out patient care.

The new clinic will provide 2500 new parking spaces. The Loma Linda VA Medical center, the main hospital only has 1500 parking spaces.

One of the big complaints from veterans with the old Loma Linda VA medical center, was the lack of parking. Patients would spend half hour or more looking for a parking space.

The VA's volunteer services will be servicing both the main hospital and new out patient clinic. They will have an office in both places to accomodate people.

For volunteers of the VA hospital, the majority of volunteers will be sent to the new facility. The hospital will keep minimal volunteer staff on hand due to the fact it is all inpatient.

The Veteran Administrations new ambulatory care facility took over a year to build. The three story building is on long term lease with the VA and will serve as improved care for our veterans.

Practice makes perfect

Practice makes perfect. At least that is what the Loma Linda and Colton Fire Departments believe in. This weekend of April 30th, the two fire departments are holding a joint training session.

The training being held at an abandoned apartments/house. Both departments are training to ventilate the roof. According to fire department official, by ventilating the roof, saves from more damage to the homeowner in a fire.

Today's excersise took them on the roof of the house. Seven fire fighters took turn's going up the ladder to the roof. They then use chain saws and picks to cut holes in the roof.

Fore those who enjoy watching fire and rescue personel, this is your chance. They will be there for the next couple of evenings doing verious training.

The abandoned apartments and house are scheduled to be torn down by the end of May.

Secondlife Roleplay life

Second Life is a virtual world where practicly anything is possible. with that possibility comes virtual role play.

In second life or sl as it is known, there are over 7,700 role play or rp groups. These groups range from role playing police and fire fighter, to adult rp's.

Many verious roles available to people on second life. Some groups are good others not so good. One such case for good rp groups is a section for pirate rp. There are a few "estates" for pirates in sl.

Emergency services groups are plenty. Seems like every other person on a city/town sim has their own emergency services group.

The good part about being in a role play group on second life is the community. You play as a group and certainly a way to make friends.

As a new player some groups will take you under their wing and teach you how to role play. The down side of that is, depending on the group it could cost you money buying so called toys to rp with.

Role play toys such as police cars, fire trucks, and pirate ships can get expensive if you buy the best ones. The down side to having your own police car or fire truck is if you don't run a group, some sims won't alow it. Most sims if you belong to their police or fire group they provide vehicles for you to use.ds.

Combat is another form of role play populer on second life. In order to make it close to real life, they use whats called health huds. The health huds or meters go down as you get shot or stabbed and can be either self healing or healed by a healing hud.

Second life combat can be compaired to some of the populer first person shooter games. For most weapons you have to go into first person in order to use them.

Another form of role play in second life, is what they call para rp. Para rp is basicly standing around dressed as your chairacter and typing in rounds with no actual action.

Even Ghostbusters and Star Wars has their own role play following. There are lightsabors and force huds that work. For ghostbusters they have rp proton packs and ghosts you rez out and actualy trap.

All in all Second Life you truely can do anything you want and that includes role playing anything you want.

SATERN siminar success

SATERN Siminar

Once a year the Salvation Army Team of
Emergency Radio Network (SATRN) gets
together.

Yesterday 1/30/2016 marked another successful
siminar at the San Bernardino corp. The
siminar was lead by Paul Hagar AE6TR. Mr
Hagar is the SATERN coordnater for the San
Bernardino and Riverside section.

The anual six hour event started at 9am and
started out with Paul explaining what SATERNs
mission is and introducing the key speakers.

The mission of SATERN is to suport the
Salvation Army in the event of a dissaster.
One way they do that is through amature
radio. They provide communications when
communication through other means isn't
possible.

The first speaker was Carl Gardines the ARRL
section manager. ARRL is the Amature Radio
Relay League.

Mr Gardenes talked about the importance of
SATERN in relation to working with other
agencies in a dissaster. He also donated
several items for rafil complaments of the
ARRL.

Next speaker was a security expert who spoke
on how to handle an "active shooter". This is
important in the wake of the terrorist
shooting in San Bernardino.

There were a few door prizes to be given
away. This included the updated repeater
directories donated by the ARRL, as well as
tool kits, watt meter and a hand held radio.

After lunch, Paul presented certificates of
apreciation to the SATERN corp leaders. All
were given a certificate and candy for their
hard work as well as applause.

After the awards, there was a speaker
explaining mesh network and the ses that the
Salvation Army can get out of it. For those
not familure with mesh networks, they work
like a repeater only for the internet/data.

All in all the siminar was a success.
